Dept. of Sociology, Govt. College for Women, Faridabad organized a National Webinar on “Women Empowerment in the context of Indian Society”

Dept. of Sociology, Govt. College for Women, Faridabad organized a National Webinar on “Women Empowerment in the context of Indian Society” on 12th June 2022. The aim of the National Webinar was capacity building of U.G. and P.G. students, Research Scholars & Professionals to meet out complex challenges of women empowerment by analyzing the progress achieved towards the Women Empowerment in particular & gender equality in general and also the road ahead in this regard apart from highlighting the challenges & hurdles and suggesting remedial measures in order to achieve women empowerment in India. We have received registrations from Haryana (Faridabad, Ballabgarh, Gurugram, Loharu, Ambala, Kaithal, Narnaul, Palwal), Uttar Pradesh (Meerut, Sherkot, Bijnor, Hapur, Deoband Saharanpur, Muzaffarnagar, Gajraula, Amroha, Agra, Ghaziabad, Aligarh), Rajasthan (Kota), Gujarat (Gandhinagar, Ahmadabad), Uttarakhand (Rudraprayag) and Delhi etc and in total 96 registrations. The Chief Guest Prof. Yogendra Singh (H.O.D Dept of Sociology, CH. Charan Singh University, Meerut) addressed the gathering of professionals, research scholars and students and highlighted the role of women in the process of socialization as their thoughts and their value systems lead to the development of a good family, good society and ultimately a good nation. Then, technical session was started with speech of very eminent and scholarly speaker Dr. Suman (Associate Prof. from Dept of Sociology, Ragunath Girls Post Graduate College, Meerut), She focused on decision making power of women to be empowered and presented her opinion on the issue with statistical data and commented on constitutional rights of women and Me too movement and asked women to do introspection by doing research. Further, Dr. Anshu Tyagi (Assistant Prof. from Dept. of History, Babasaheb Bhimrao Ambedkar , Bihar University, Muzaffarpur) presented historical analysis of women empowerment in India from past to present. Dr. Sangeeta Kumar (Assistant Prof. from Dept of Sociology, Smt. B D Jain Girls PG College Agra, Uttar Pradesh) highlighted regional disparities in the context of women empowerment, commented on ill practices like Dayan Pratha and Honor killing. The last speaker of the technical session Mrs Ruby (Assistant Prof. from Dept of English, Mahamaya Government Degree College, Sherkot, Bijnor) started with conceptual clarity of women empowerment, gender inequality and gender socialization. Further she stated that women have not been conferred equality whether it is socio-political or economic. She highlighted the importance of women empowerment in bringing gender equality and suggested some ways to empower women. The event was closed with a Felicitation Session and Vote of Thanks by Dr. Parul Rana (Associate Prof., Dept. of Geography, GCW, Faridabad). This event was successfully organized under support and guidance of our worthy Principal Dr. Sunidhi.
