On January 10, 2024, health talk on "Newborn-Children's Health Issues and Pediatric Care" was held by the Women Cell of Government College for Women, Faridabad. Dr. Mohitesh Srivastava, a Senior Consultant-Pediatrics, Neonatologist, Co-Founder and Director of Medical Sathi Hospital Sector 88, Faridabad, addressed the students in two sessions - 1. Newborn Children's health issues and 2. Common newborn and Pediatric Care: Myths and Facts. The health expert debunked myths related to newborn care in India like applying kajal to your baby’s eyes is not recommended as it can lead to eye infections and other complications, even vision problems.While massage can be beneficial for your baby, using mustard oil is not recommended as it can cause skin irritation and other issues.The practice of putting oil in the nose and ears is also a common myth. Parents believe that it helps to clear the baby's nasal passages and prevent infections.This practice is vey unsafe and can actually lead to infections and even respiratory distress if the oil enters the lungs. During the inauguration of talk, the college principal, Dr. Narendra Kumar, also emphasized that newborn care is a crucial aspect of parenting but in India there are several myths and misconceptions surrounding it. It is essential to debunk them to ensure that newborns receive the best possible care.There were about 84 students participating in the programme. The health expert also answered the questions of students and staff members. The session was successfully held under the guidance of our worthy principal. On this occasion, Women Cell members, Ms. Sangeeta Kanjani & Ms. Savita Nagar and Ms. Meenu Sheoran, Ms Divesh, Ms. Sonia Minocha, Ms. Mamta (clerk), Mr. Suresh Kumar and Mr. Prabhakar Pandey and other staff members were present. The programme was end with the vote of thanks by Ms. Sheetal Rani, incharge of Women Cell.
