On September 13, 2024, the National Service Scheme (NSS) unit and the Department of Chemistry at Government College for Women commemorated World Ozone Day with considerable enthusiasm and awareness under the esteemed guidance of Principal Dr. Sunidhi. The event was meticulously organized by NSS Program Officer Dr. Rachna Saini and her team, comprising Dr. Sheetal Rani, Neha Viz, Priya Saini, Savita Nagar, and Dr. Raman Kumar. The primary objective was to educate students about the vital significance of the ozone layer and global initiatives undertaken to protect it. The celebration featured a keynote address by Dr. Punam Rani, which highlighted the critical role of the ozone layer in safeguarding life on Earth from harmful ultraviolet (UV) radiation. Additionally, the discussion encompassed pivotal topics such as the Montreal Protocol and the ongoing imperative for environmental conservation efforts. Also Bhumika from BBA 2nd year gave presentation on ' Ozone depletion : Causes and cures'. The event drew an impressive participation of 200 students, who engaged actively in learning about the importance of ozone layer protection. The commemoration culminated in a solemn pledge by the students to adopt proactive measures towards environmental conservation, thereby transforming the event into a meaningful call to action.
