The Department of Journalism and Mass Communication at Government Women s College Sector 16A Faridabad celebrated National Press Day with a series of events aimed at highlighting the importance of press freedom and its role in society. On November 16 2024 a special session was organized to mark the occasion. The college Principal Dr Sunidhi addressed the students emphasizing that National Press Day serves as a reminder of the values of journalism and the critical role of journalists.

The Department of Journalism and Mass Communication at Government Women s College Sector 16A Faridabad celebrated National Press Day with a series of events aimed at highlighting the importance of press freedom and its role in society. On November 16 2024 a special session was organized to mark the occasion. The college Principal Dr Sunidhi addressed the students emphasizing that National Press Day serves as a reminder of the values of journalism and the critical role of journalists. She highlighted that an independent press acts as a bridge between the government and the public safeguarding democracy. The Head of the Department Mrs Shalini Khurana provided insights into the significance of National Press Day observed annually on November 16. She explained that the day commemorates the establishment of the Press Council of India PCI in 1966 which was created to uphold the freedom and responsibility of the press. Final year student Sarika Mishra spoke about the objectives of the PCI stressing the importance of press freedom and the responsibilities that journalists must shoulder. Faculty member Dr Rachna Saini elaborated on the formation of the PCI explaining its pivotal role in ensuring the dignity and independence of the press. Assistant Professor Suresh Kumar informed the students about key legislations such as the Prasar Bharati Act and the IT Act while faculty member Ms. Savita Nagar cautioned students about the responsible use of social media. She urged them to limit overuse to avoid mental stress and to be cautious while sharing personal information online. 90 students participated in this session. On November 19 2024 the department organized an Extension Lecture on the theme The Changing Social Landscape Through Community Media. The lecture was delivered by Prof Suresh Verma from Jamia Millia Islamia who provided an in depth analysis of the evolving media landscape. He highlighted that after print and electronic media the current era belongs to community media where audiences themselves act as content creators reshaping societal dynamics. Principal Dr Sunidhi encouraged students to adapt to the changing media landscape and stressed the importance of ethical journalism that balances professional growth with social responsibility. Department Head Mrs Shalini Khurana expressed gratitude to the keynote speaker and shared an overview of the departments annual activities. Faculty members Dr. Rachna Saini Ms Savita Nagar and Mr Suresh Kumar were also present.
